****Qurtuba University & UNIMAS (Malaysia) signed MoU****
Adhering to its key objective of internationalizing Higher Education, Qurtuba University of Science & Information Technology signed Memorandum of Undersatanding (MoU) with UNIMAS (University Malaysia Sarawak), Kota Samarahan, Malaysia, on 16th January 2017. 
On behalf of Qurtuba University, the MoU was signed by Dr. Muhammad Azhar Khan Niazi, Chairman Qurtuba Education System while Vice Chancellor of UNIMAS, Professor Dato’ Dr Mohamad Kadim bin Suaidi signed it on behalf of UNIMAS. On the occasion, Prof Dr. Muhammad Mansoor Khan, Dean Faculty of Engineering and Dr. Imran Ullah, Chairman Department of Electrical Engineering (QUSIT) were also present to witness the MOU signing ceremony along with Dr Johari Abdullah Dean for Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology UNIMAS.
Dr. Muhammad Azhar Khan Niazi expressed his hope that this agreement would be beneficial and facilitative for the mutual interest of the both sides and will enhance the cooperation and coordination between both countries in higher education. He further reiterated that QUSIT sticks to its one of the primary objectives: internationalization of higher education, by collaborating with a number of reputed academic institutions around the world. 
UNIMAS Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dato’ Dr Mohamad Kadim Suaidi said the MoU marks a new beginning for both UNIMAS and Qurtuba University which aims to foster active collaboration in the area of students and staff exchange, research, curriculum development and other areas.
“Collaboration between UNIMAS and external parties has been going on for many years and this is to ensure that UNIMAS stay in touch with the needs of the stakeholders particularly the community with regards to our curriculum and to utilize our research expertise to solve problems in the community,” he said.
According to Professor Dato’ Dr Mohamad Kadim, ICT plays an important role in the development of nation and economy, thus, there is a great potential for ICT products and services market globally, to put emphasis on knowledge economy.
He also revealed that the UNIMAS are committed to produce excellent and holistic graduates that can serve the needs of the industry, the community and the nation.
“ UNIMAS has been actively involved in bridging the digital divide through several initiatives such as the eBario, eLamai and eBa’kelalan projects, These projects are done through our research centre, Institute of Social Innovation and Technologies Innovation (ISITI).
“ Therefore, I believe this another area of collaboration which we can share our expertise in term of bridging the digital divide in the rural communities,” he added.
Meanwhile, the MoU is endeavour to take necessary steps to encourage and promote co-operation in the following areas such as collaborative research, student project and internship, collaborative development of curriculum and syllabus, exchange of academic staff/faculty members for research and teaching, participation in seminars and academic meeting, short term academics/study visits and any other areas of co-operation.
