Qurtuba University of Science and Information Technology was established with the sole purpose of imparting quality education in the various fields of science and I.T.

The target areas are educationally backward areas of this country. By the grace of ALMIGHTY ALLAH, we have achieved our objects as many of the students are coming for admission from far flung areas of the country. The single most objective of this university has been the accomplishment of high academic standards with full emphasis on moral excellence.

In view of our concerted efforts, HEC has raised our category to W-3. This is a highest category in the ranking of universities of the private sector of the country. Recently the Department of Management Sciences got unique honor of getting “X1” category by the National Business Education Accreditation Council of HEC for BBA and MBA programs. Similarly, the Department of Computer Science has also been recognized by the Accreditation Council of this subject.

All this has been possible due to our everlasting endeavors of both highly qualified teaching and administrative staff and the most refined students of this university.
Improvement of library has been the regular feature since its inception of Qurtuba Education System. Many new titles have been added to the University Library and now it has the relevant books needed for the programs offered in this University. The computer laboratories have an atmosphere for all kinds of research in various fields of studies with the help of internet services. With wireless internet facility, we have an access to digital library of HEC where one can get requisite information of academic nature. We are proud to announce that HEC and Law BAR Council have allowed us to start 5-year (10 Semester) LL.B. program which is commencing from this session. Besides, new program like M.Sc. in the subjects of Physics and Chemistry and 4 Years (8 Semester)  BS in Physics has also been started.
In the broader perspective and recognition of University internationally, we are in the process of developing linkage programs with some of the leading foreign universities.
Qurtuba University has a unique honor of starting M.Phil& Ph.D. classes in the fields of Management Sciences, International Relations, Political Sciences, Education, Urdu, English, Mathematics, Islamiat and Pakistan Studies. These programs will not only strengthen the faculty of the university but will also help in solving the lingering problems, which hinder the pace of development of the area in various fields through quality research. It is our belief that teaching and research transform the mind and integrate not only the individual but also the whole nation. Meeting of Board of Governors

The 9th meeting of Board of Governor’s was held on 9th March, 2013 at the university’s Peshawar campus. It was attended by Prof. Dr. Abdul Mateen khan, Prof. Dr. Muhammad said, Prof. Dr. Khan Bahadur Marwat, Prof. Dr. Lutfullah Kakakhel, Prof. Dr. G.A. Miana, Prof. Dr.Muhammad Saleem, Dr. Fakhr – Ul – Islam, Dr.Muhammad Azhar Khan Niazi, Mr. Abdul Hafeez Khan Niazi, Mr. Faisal Khan Niazi, Prof. Dr. Hameed ullah Khan Alizai (Vice – Chancellor), Mr. .Sher Bahadur (secretary / Registrar). Our worthy President Dr. Muhammad Zulfiqar Khan Niazi presided over the meeting. The meeting commenced with the recitation from the Holy Qur’an .Welcoming the distinguished participants, he recapitulated comprehensively on the genesis of the university encompassing the various phases it passed through and ordeals it confronted with in reaching the climax of W3 category_ W4 being the highest. Special mention was also made by the chair of the two journals – one quarterly and other biannually with encrypt pride with recognition by the Higher education Commission . Rich tributes were paid to the late founder, Prof.Abdul Aziz Khan Niazi, whose untiring efforts made the dream of university an envious reality. May his soul rest in peace in his eternal abode. The president adumbrated the participant members of the various laurels our university amassed during course of its journey. The previous BOG’s meeting proposals and suggestions came under discussion and members expressed their satisfaction on the goals achieved. The Annual report under review 2012-2013 was presented by our Registrar Mr. Sher Bahadur, who got approved almost all items. Various suggestions were put forth by the members for inculcating them in the objectives and mission of our university, worth noting being naming a Hall in the memory of Founding Father, Late Abdul Aziz Khan Niazi and a plaque inscribing on the hall with his glorious achievements. The participants also suggested that a scholarship entitled, Founder Prize be instituted, for the deserving and meritorious students to give exposure to the university’s Philanthropic and altruistic approach. The meeting concluded with a vote of thanks to and from the Chair.

Presentation Competition

A presentation competition was organized on 27th February 2013 in order to enhance the latent talent of students. Fifty students from different disciplines took part in the competition. However, only seven among them were selected for the final round. Prof. Dr. Muhammad Saleem, Dean of Social Science was the chief guest. Dr. Saleem emphasized on holding such activities and stated that such culture should flourish for the mental growth of students. At the end of competition, Mr. Sher Bahadur, Registrar of the Qurtuba University, distributed cash prizes and certificates among the first three position holders; i.e. Khair Rehman (BBA), Ikram ullah (MA IR), Karishma Ihsan (BA) respectively.

Seminar on Stock Exchange

Qurtuba University, Peshawar campus conducted a seminar on the topic of “Stock Exchange” on 13th February, 2013. The resource person Mr. Shahzad Anwar, lecturer, of Management Science, practically demonstrated online execution of transactions of different financial securities registered at Karachi stock exchange. The Seminar was attended by students, faculty members and senior coordinators.

Rules and Regulations

 

Conduct of the Programs (M.Phil/MS & Ph.D):

 

·         M.Phil/Ph.D level course work is of minimum 30 credit hours (24 credit hours work + 6 credit hours research) & 18 credit hours respectively. However, any students may be asked to undertake additional course work to meet the knowledge deficiency (if any).

·         At the end of the course work each scholar is required to qualify the comprehensive test from the courses taught during the program.

·         After successfully passing the course work and (with CGPA 3 or above for Ph.D & CGPA 2.5 or above for M.Phil) and qualifying comprehensive test, the students research period commences. However, M.Phil/MS students have to carry out research equivalent to 6 credit hours, in two semesters (minimum) to four semesters (maximum). The research dissertation thesis/project may be of six credit hours.

·         Research proposal duly approved by the department research committee and verified for plagiarism should be put up to BOASAR for its approval.

·         Ph.D dissertation once completed in all  respects and approved by the “Research Supervisor” must be evaluated by at least three experts including two foreign experts from technologically advance countries, given the availability factor. Research related to oriental languages and others may be sent to foreign experts of other than the technologically advance countries, e.g. For Urdu, India, for Persian, Islamic Republic of Iran, for Pashto, Afghanistan and for Arabic to any Arabic speaking country. Expenses incurred foreign evaluation of dissertation will be borne by the student.

·         Acceptance/Publication of at least one research paper in an HEC approved journal is essential for the award of PhD degree.

·         The maximum number of Ph.D students under the supervision of a full time faculty member will normally be 5 which may be increased to eight under special circumstances in teaching departments. In research fields where the faculty is involved in full time research with low teaching work load, the number of Ph.D. students may be larger with approval of the Higher Education Commission (HEC).

·         Public defense of the Ph.D dissertation & viva voce of M.Phil thesis after successful completion of all requirements.

·         Award of M.Phil/Ph.D degree on successful of all the conditions mentioned above.

·         Rules for MS/M.phil are equally applicable to the students of MBA (Post BBA Hon) Programs.

 

Conduct of Examinations

·         There shall be two examinations in a semester, i.e. mid-term and final, in additional to home assignment/quizzes. However, evaluation of independent study (of 100 marks) will be made by the panel of experts, generally the supervisory committee in a detailed presentation made by the standard at the end of semester.

·         The weightage of the examinations shall be as follows:

·         Comprehensive Written Test and Oral Examination

 

(Viva-Voce) on Courses Studied & Passed

·         On the completion of the course work, a Ph.D scholar shall have to pass a comprehensive written and oral examination in the field of his studies. Fifty percent marks shall be required in written and the oral examination separately to pass the examination. These marks shall however, not to be counted towards CGPA of a research scholar.

 

·         The Comprehensive written and oral examination shall be conducted by the Supervisory Committee which may co-opt teacher(s) associated with the course work of the scholar.

·         If the scholar fails in the comprehensive written and oral exam, he/she will be given only one more chance to pass the written and oral examination within a period off six months.

·         The details of comprehensive Written and Oral examination will be worked out by the Supervisory Committee of the research scholar. However, there will be one written Paper of 300 marks, with three sections of 100 marks each, and viva-voce examination carrying100 marks.

·         The maximum duration of the theory examination will be 4 (four) hours, while the maximum duration of viva-voce examination will be two hours.

Note:

·         Rounding off Principle: Only 0.5 marks and above will be rounded off to next digit in individual subject results.

·         In case where numerical grades are not assessable (i.e. field work), letter grade P (pass) or F (Fail) shall instead be used, and not counted towards CGPA.

o    The minimum standards for successful performance in Ph.D course work shall be a CGPA pf 3.0. A scholar whose record falls below it must raise his CGPA to the required minimum either by repeating the courses, or by taking additional course(s) in the following semester, otherwise he/she shall be considered as withdrawn from the Ph.D degree program or may be transferred to M.Phil/MS research work if it was not completed before. The course work of two semesters (under any circumstances) may be extended to maximum 4 four semesters on the recommendation of supervisory committee and approval of Vice-Chancellor.

o     A research scholar failing in a subject will be allowed only one more chance to pass the same in the following semester along with the subsequent semester subjects. In case he/she still fails to attain the required passing marks, then he/she has to take fresh classes for that subject provided the Supervisory committee has recommended extension of course work period with the approval of vice-Chancellor. However, this extension should not be allowed beyond two semesters.

 

Research Requirements: Thesis

o    The scholar will defend his/her research proposal by the end of 2nd semester or later. Scholar failing to submit research proposal within one semester of the completion of course work will be served with warning on fine or both. However, the provincial admission of the research scholar, who failed in submitting his/her research proposal with one calendar year of the completion of course work will be cancelled and he/she will be struck-off from the list of Ph.D students.

o    After the successful completion of course work and upon qualifying       comprehensive examination, the scholar shall pursue research work for two semesters for M.Phil/Ms/MBA and two calendar years for Ph.D under the guidance of a Supervisor designated by the BOASAR. However, the duration of research work may be extended by the Vice-Chancellor, upon the recommendation of supervisory committee on the request of research scholar.

o    The statement of research problem (synopsis) shall be submitted by the research scholar to the Supervisory Committee, preferably during the Second Semester for the approval of BOASAR. Once recommended by the supervisory committee the scholar will submit 16 copies of the research proposal for the approval of BOASAR.  

o    On completion of research, the scholar shall submit a draft of thesis for scrutiny and advice to the Supervisory Committee.

 

In case approved by the Supervisory Committee, Six (6) printed copies of the research work shall be submitted to the Controller of Examinations for the purpose of evaluation. Thesis for the Ph.D degree will not be accepted for evaluation earlier than six (6) semesters and later than 12 (twelve) semesters from the date of registration. Expenses on seeking evaluation from foreign examiners (including mail charges and remuneration of the experts) will be deposited by the research scholar in advance.
